Art Outside

This past weekend a few friends and I attended Art Outside about an hour and some change northeast of Austin. It’s a weekend-long event that showcases artist making art in the outside, as well as displaying art, creating art, talking about their art, as well as music, shows and all sorts of craziness. There were sideshows, really awesome food-cart choices (including a chocolate truck!), things to see and buy, comfy couches and so much more. Definitely worth going to see and definitely best with friends!

There was bicycles decorated like butterflies or a quinticycle (?) that was dressed up as a rattlesnake. Even a bicycle made to look like a bat whose wings flapped as you pedaled.

There were men in hats that shot fireworks and played with propane burners, dancers that did strange interpretive dances on stilts and with sticks on fire (it must be art – I didn’t understand it), singing tesla coils (my FAVORITE part by far), metal sculptures 50 feet tall, and all night ooncy-ooncy music in the dome tent.

Above all, there was fire. Lots and lots of fire. Fireworks, metal sculpture propane torches, people spinning firey poi or longstaffs on fire and, my favorite, the flaming hula-hooper (click on any of the pictures to get a larger version.)
